Job Description

Belk is the country’s largest privately owned department store with over 23,000 associates, 290 stores, in 16 states, and is located in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. We are looking for a corporate accounting manager who will help us achieve our commitment to transform the department store experience.

 

We are looking for a strong accountant to join our team. This position will be responsible for accounting for various corporate general ledger transactions as well as variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations..

 

Essential Functions:                                                                                                                       

 

In addition to corporate general ledger accounting, this position will have significant participation in the monthly close function, corporate allocations and various other business unit accruals.

 

Other areas of responsibility:

•        Clear communication and understanding of the account activity in assigned areas and proper accounting methodology

•        Prepare account analyses using accounting data and Excel

•        Maintain complex excel models that support financial accounting

•        Develop an understanding of account structure and accounting systems necessary to participate in making changes to meet business needs

•        Prepare account reconciliations

•        Record journal entries with proper transaction support

•        Prepare support for audit requests

•        Maintain current and detailed documentation for all assigned accounts and processes

•        Participate in ad-hoc projects as assigned

 

 

Education / Experience Requirements:

Minimum Education & Experience:

 

•        2 or more years of experience in corporate or general ledger accounting

•        Bachelors degree and/or equivalent years of experience. Specific Degree: Accounting/Business/Finance

•        Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision

•        Strong communication skills with a sense of urgency

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

•  Lawson experience

 

Knowledge / Skills Requirements:

Strong analytical and excel skills

Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines

Hyperion/Essbase (preferred)
