The Financial Analyst provides financial analysis, recommendations, and insight to the business. They also provide financial planning support on key strategic initiatives. The Financial Analyst collaborates with the business to provide insightful financial and operational analysis. This position will be responsible for identifying and recommending expense savings opportunities and implementing process improvements, both within the Financial Planning Department and throughout the larger Belk organization.
Job Functions • Acts as the subject-matter-expert for a specific area of business and expense budget owner(s). Establishes and maintains relationships within the supported business areas. • Supports the business area / expense budget owner by developing executive-level budget, forecast, and scenario-based reporting. • Educates business partners on financial acumen to build the business area’s financial foundation and assist with better decision-making. • Maintains a high level of knowledge of current trends and business conditions to provide relevant and useful analysis and insight. • Collaborates across functions to conduct root cause analysis and identify risks, opportunities, and make corresponding recommendations. Provides the business area with options to mitigate financial risks. • Conducts in-depth financial analysis and review for the business area. Translates complex findings into clear, actionable insights. • Supports business area initiatives through report generation, in-depth analysis, financial reviews and recommendations. Understands key performance metrics of these initiatives and how they are influenced during specific times of the year or specific events. • Develops reporting to influence financial and expense decision-making and support EBITDA improvement. • Continuously looks to simplify finance processes, from reporting and documentation to better use of technology and tools. • Participates in ad hoc projects as needed. Education / Experience Requirements: Please select from below the expected Contribution Level for this role Position Contribution Level : Intermediate Level Intermediate Level Minimum Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field. • 2 years Financial Analysis experience with a proven track record of increasing responsibility, preferably within FP&A (retail a plus) Preferred Education & Experience: • MBA or advanced degree • Prior financial experience for a retailer • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
