Summary of Duties:

Responsible for the implementation of a therapeutic milieu, individual treatment programs and the nightly supervision/care of children living in the residential unit. Also performs routine cottage housekeeping chores.

Responsibilities:

Direct supervision/daily care of the children in residential unit during overnight shifts, including routine bed checks during shift

Provide a clean, safe and therapeutic living environment through performance of regular cottage housekeeping duties

Provide a therapeutic balance of hierarchy and affiliation, demonstrating an understanding of the emotional needs of the children at all times.

Implement TCC procedures for behavior (both verbal and non-verbal) and physical management, balancing client’s needs for structure, nurturing, learning and recreation

Form trusting relationships with the children by forming a therapeutic alliance and demonstrating an appropriate and nurturing adult role model

Provide input into the service plans on an ongoing basis; attend all required in-services and meetings

Complete appropriate reports and records (i.e. intervention reports with data entry in Evolv system)

Respect racial, ethnic and cultural differences of all clients and staff

Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience Equivalencies:

BA in the human services field or 4 years related experience required.

Prior experience preferred with special needs population especially EBD children.

Demonstrated success in behavior management, assessment skills, crisis intervention.

All candidates must have (or qualify to obtain) a current Colorado driver license.

Physical Requirements:

TCC requires that persons providing direct care of children be able to perform physical restraints or containment’s with an aggressive, physically acting-out child (age 5 - 18) by being able to:

• Wrap his/her arms around the young person to immobilize the arms.

• Maintain a firm bear-hug hold around the child from behind.

• Have adequate strength and flexibility to hold the child while the adult drops to his/her knees, lowering the weight of the child backwards to the floor.

   • Support own weight above the young person while securing lower legs of face-up child (to prevent kicking) or maintain a firm hold of the wrists/arms of the child along the child’s sides.

• Assume a restraint for periods of time varying from 5-30 minutes.
