Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director, Student Organization Engagement Job Summary: The Assistant Director for Student Organization Engagement will support event planning, manage an information desk that provides high quality customer service, implement building-specific programming, and assist in the management of Red Zone (dining/gaming venue) and the Hodge Center for Student Engagement & Leadership (SEAL). The regular work schedule for this position will be Monday – Friday with hours varying based on events and responsibilities. Duties:

  • Manage reservations and meet with student organizations hosting events in the Armstrong Student Center to ensure clear event setup expectations and smooth event implementation
  • Coordinate high quality customer service to guests utilizing the facility and services
  • Directly supervise a diverse staff of student Ambassadors and Red Zone staff
  • Assist in the management of Red Zone and the Hodge Center for Student Engagement & Leadership
  • Provide leadership and professional development opportunities for student staff
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate building-specific events including welcome week events, theme days/nights, and coffee-house style events in coordination with student organizations
  • Educate student organization leaders on Armstrong Student Center policies, procedures, and expectations
  • Effectively communicate event details and support needs to event production staff
  • Act as a liaison for event planners with Conference and Event Services, Miami University Police Department, third party vendors and Physical Facilities to coordinate services for events
  • Respond to emergencies and provide support to Building Managers and Event Production Staff, serving in an on-call role as part of a rotation
  • Apply policies equitably and recognize unusual circumstances
  • Work on a team in a collaborative environment
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in a related field. Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • 1 or more years of post-Master’s related professional experience
  • Knowledge of college union policies and procedures related to event production and customer service
  • Experience facilitating student programming or implementing student-centered programs
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with EMS or similar space scheduling systems
