Hours:                   Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with after-hours as needed

Position Description


Assemi Group, Inc. is looking to add a tax manager to its growing Tax and Finance & Accounting Departments.  This role will contribute directly to both tax planning and tax compliance for members of the affiliated group and with respect to all lines of business.  These contributions will include efforts to improve upon and further develop our tax projections and tax-related analytics and modeling, and further streamline federal and state return preparation.  The ideal candidate will be both driven and team-oriented, adhering wholeheartedly to the notion that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Essential Functions/Accountabilities


  • Planning, modeling, and reporting the federal and California income tax consequences of real estate and business transactions of partnerships (LLCs), disregarded entities, subchapter S corporations, individuals, and grantor and non-grantor trusts.
  • Planning, modeling, and reporting the federal estate and gift tax consequences of transfers of wealth.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
  • Prepare and support the preparation of responses to requests received from tax authorities in connection with inquiries and examinations.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in tax law, communicate the effects of these developments to the Tax Department and create strategies to manage and maximize the benefits associated with such changes.




  • Taxation of real estate transactions, including debt-financing, tax-deferred exchanges, commercial leasing, residential construction, and joint ventures.
  • Taxation of pass-throughs, as well as the application of the at-risk and passive activity loss rules to their owners.
  • Thorough knowledge of general tax planning strategies available to family-owned and/or closely held businesses.
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
  • Proficiency with the following software/tools: Excel and general familiarity with tax preparation software.


Experience and Credentials


  • Four years of tax accounting experience
  • CPA license preferred
  • Masters in tax-preferred

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work


This is a full time at will position, and work hours are typically Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as department needs demand.




Travel is minimal and is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
