The Communication Department is responsible for informing all of SHRM’s audiences on SHRM’s thought leadership, mission and activities in a positive, consistent and credible manner. The Communication Department is also responsible for publicly protecting and defending SHRM’s reputation and brand. Typically, this means working directly with news organizations and journalists responsible for producing the news and features in mass media. In other instances, it means utilizes social media to exchange information about SHRM directly with the press, key audiences and influencers. The Communication Department encompasses Brand, Media Relations, Social Media Engagement and Corporate Communications. The collective team engages in a variety of work related to managing SHRM’s reputation and brand image among SHRM’s members as well as elevating the reputation to business leaders and policy makers on a broader, global scale.
Under the direction of the Director of Event Experience, the Senior Specialist, Event Communications tells the stories of SHRM as the voice of all things work and crafts narratives to elevate the global HR profession. This role drafts talking points, conference scripts, presentation slides, letters, campaign memos and other writing assignments in support of events and integrated communication campaigns. This position is responsible for achievement of assigned goals and business objectives that coincide with the goals and business objectives of SHRM via brand reputation and experience.
Draft and edit run-of-show scripts for SHRM conferences, as well as SHRM affiliate conferences.
Create and prepare talking points and prepare senior staff and executives for SHRM and SHRM affiliate events.
Working with the Event Experience team – write event specific thematic frameworks, message maps and speaker profiles.
Shape and write session statements and related content.
Review and analyze post-event feedback reports to understand how the story landed with the audience to be able to shape future event communications to different audiences.
Working with the Director of Brand Communications, engage in new ways to activate the story of the workplace at events.
Bring the theme, vision, look and feel to life at each and every SHRM event through written or oral presentations.
Partner closely with the Event Marketing team to ensure copy pulls through the thematic plan for each event into event marketing collateral.
Partner with research to discover best ways to integrate data into the pre, onsite and post event story.
Manage complex communication projects with initiative, strategic thinking and thought partnership.
Creative project management of programs/initiatives/campaigns and how they come to life at events.
Other writing assignments to support SHRM events and master brand.
