Summary:
An Application Engineer is expected to work in the CNC machining centers and is responsible for all
aspects of manufacturing and fabricating precision machined parts to meet customer and quality
specifications on various types of CNC Machines.
Responsibilities:
• Interpret Machine Manuals to write Macros and aid in advanced machining operations
• Troubleshoot machine malfunctions, adjust, and then test to ensure machine is performing to
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Standards
• Work with Programming to establish and optimize proper cutting parameters
• Recommend new work holding solutions for complex work pieces. Review/assist in design, testing
and implementation.
• Establish cutting technology and probing/tooling/fixturing/work holding methods
• Determine and communicate Methods and Sequence of Operations to all internal customers.
• Utilize verification software to ensure program integrity and first piece acceptance.
• Assist quoting setting standards for machine and process capabilities. Cubic inch removal
calculations, number of operations, and required stock values to safely machine part. Grain
structure meets engineering requirements.
• Troubleshoot complex work holding issues
• Set and author standards for order of operations
• Set and author standards for probing
• Set standards for cutting tools, RPM, feed rate, axial and radial depth of cut
• Set standards for cutting tool testing
• Set standards for measurement of cutting tools
• Project Management on assigned Onboarding activities
• Always be pursuing and implementing new technology.
• Provide ongoing feedback to Engineering/Quoting/Quality departments
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision
Qualifications:
Mill-Turn Machining experience highly preferred, and Okuma Machine Controls.
• Basic understanding and application of 3D printing technologies preferred
• Advanced understanding of work holding design and function strongly preferred
• Understand AS9100 or other Quality Management Systems strongly preferred
• Must have full understanding of all aspects of machine manufacturing. i.e.: 3, 4, 5 Axis,
Material Types, Tooling, Fixtures, Fixture Design, Part Holding Techniques, Advanced CNC
Programming (NX / CATIA).
• Must easily identify cutting tool geometry for aluminum, steel, hard metals
• Must have broad knowledge and ability to setup and utilize tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars,
fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
