Job Description

Summary of Major Functions:

Provide art therapy services and maintain structure for the Partial Hospitalization Program, the Evening Intensive Outpatient Program, and Outpatient groups as needed.  Responsibilities include conducting art therapy groups, psycho-educational or experiential groups, individual art therapy and assessments, facilitating meals and meal processing, documentation, providing leadership to and encouraging a therapeutic milieu.

Duties and Responsibilities:          

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of and practice of effective art therapy and counseling skills.
  2. Conducts art therapy assessments when requested for new admissions, and contributes a diagnostic evaluation in written and verbal form to the team.
  3. Provides support to milieu staff for effective and professional management of the milieu.
  4. Facilitates meals with patients, as needed, in a fashion consistent with current policies and procedures; eats and models appropriate eating behaviors during assigned mealtimes with patients.
  5. Contributes clinical information and observations about patients in weekly staffing.
  6. Thoroughly integrates new patients into the program via orientation demonstrating knowledge of all aspects of the clinical program.
  7. Demonstrates ability to build therapeutic rapport.
  8. Facilitates art therapy groups with expertise, demonstrating ability to engage, set limits and monitor the group process.
  9. Maintains and develops group curriculum for psycho-ed groups.
  10. Is creative in therapeutic interventions to maintain a safe, supportive, clinically sound milieu.
  11. Is present and available for patient requests and needs; provides outreach to patients when necessary.
  12. Is available and responsive to milieu staff for assistance in daily tasks and coverage when able and maintains daily program structure.
  13. Timely completion and accuracy of clinical paperwork: progress notes, group notes etc.
  14. Takes responsibility for opening and/or closing the facility when necessary.
  15. Provides outpatient services, including individual art therapy and groups as needed.
  16. Provide art therapy supervision and mentoring for art therapy interns.
  17. Model effective therapeutic relationships with clients and professional relationships with colleagues to demonstrate positive, collaborative team environment.
  18. Provide individual art therapy when backup coverage is needed for Primary Clinicians.
  19. Create effective relationships and be the liaison with other departments in creating and improving work flow and processes.
  20. Is able to conduct art therapy research as needed.
  21. Participates in community outreach and other marketing activities.
  22. Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Art Therapy required.
  • Actively pursuing or have licensure in Colorado.
  • Pursuing art therapy registration & board certification with The American Art Therapy Association.
  • Two years’ experience in the behavioral health field preferred.
  • Clinical conceptualization of the treatment of eating disorders and dual diagnosis preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills preferred.
