The Role

Special Education teachers co-teach alongside a general education teacher in an inclusive classroom setting to support all students in the classroom. The Special Education teacher will co-plan and deliver lessons that incorporate multiple learning modalities, adapt and modify instruction, and create strategies and meaningful interventions to support students’ learning.  Special Education teachers combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. MSS teachers have a growth mindset and participate in rigorous professional development throughout the year, including Responsive Classroom training, Eureka Math, Wit and Wisdom ELA, collaborative planning sessions, whole and small group school-wide focus professional development, team analysis of performance data, and other personalized opportunities for teachers to grow. MSS teachers also have the opportunity to visit other high-performing elementary schools and universities to strengthen their practice as educators.  

Responsibilities

    • Support outstanding academic achievement and student character development
    • Assist in building classroom community and relationships with families, participating in a powerful team that ensures all students make outstanding academic progress
    • Commits to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration
    • Models MSS’ Path to Success skills and supports the development of those skills in students and peers
    • Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment that excites and invests students as they reach their full potential
    • Designs and implements Individualized Education Plans in accordance with school, network, district and federal policies and laws
    • Provides direct and indirect instruction
    • Completes long and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students
    • Evaluates students’ progress
    • Teaches a multi-model approach
    • Establishes and maintain classroom management procedures
    • Prepare written reports accurately and submit in a timely manner
    • Effectively communicates with teachers, parents, and administrators to facilitate the IEP process
    • Serves as an effective professional liaison between school and home

Educational Background and Work Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred (Degree must be conferred by start date)
    • Certification in one or more of the following area(s) is required: Special Education -- Multi-Categorical, Learning Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, or Other Health Impaired
    • Minimum two years of successful experience teaching in underserved communities

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, typically salaries are offered at 105% of the district salary schedule.
