Kaiser Permanente/ The Southeast Permanente Medical Group is seeking a Senior Data Warehouse Architect who will, under general direction, work in a leadership role and be responsible for the activities related to the architecture, design, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of the Kaiser Permanente Georgia (KP GA) regional data warehouse environment. These activities involve understanding the information needs and priorities of the organization, proposing and implementing data standards and information management practices, integrating internal operational systems/data as well as external public and private data into the data warehouse, designing and implementing databases, data models and ETL processes, monitoring and optimizing the data warehouse and its contents. This role also involves creating a long-term vision for the data warehouse, managing annual, quarterly, monthly and daily priorities related to the work/projects for the data warehouse. Hiring, managing, training and evaluation the data warehouse staff are also part of the senior data warehouse architect’s role.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university / college in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant business experience and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience with data warehousing and business intelligence.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Design the technical and information architecture for the data warehouse, including all information structures (staging area, data warehouse, data marts, and operational data stores)

  • Design logical and physical data models, star-schemas, dimension and fact tables

  • Design, develop, test, monitor, manage, and validate data warehouse activity, including data extraction, transformation, movement, loading, cleansing and updating processes

  • Plan and hire for the staff for data warehouse development and operation

  • Coordinate with other data warehouse stakeholders to ensure overall health and performance of the data warehouse environment

  • Work with end users to translate business questions and requirements into applications that employ the appropriate reporting tools

  • Monitoring system performance, reliability, availability, and recoverability of the DW environment

  • In partnership with the vendors and KP IT, evaluate, select, test, and optimize BI/DW related hardware and software products for performance and reliability

  • Develop and apply sound fundamental design, analysis, and data administration concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Take on the role of the visionary/evangelist/promoter for the Georgia data environment

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Strong relational and dimensional data modeling and database design skills

  • Strong software development, programming and query-writing skills

  • Hands-on experience using ETL tools

  • Possesses interviewing, observing, questioning, and analyzing skills

  • Working knowledge of model based development

  • Customer-oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Highly effective analytical, decision-making, and written/verbal communication skills

  • Ability to investigate complex business problems, develop effective recommendations, negotiate and/or present solutions, and resolve problems in a highly professional and tactful manner

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years of data warehouse development and management

  • Microsoft SQL server platform experience

  • Healthcare experience.

  • Tableau and MS reporting services experience

  • Knowledge of statistics
