Job Description

CrossBorder Solutions has offices in New York City, Tarrytown NY, St. Petersburg FL, London and Argentina. We are currently in hypergrowth mode and seeking new talent in Austin TX and Houston TX.

This is an in office role.

Role Overview:

You will report to the Vice President, Human Resources and be responsible for completing all necessary functions of payroll processing and employee benefit administration. You will work with our current US payroll/benefits vendor (a PEO) and as well as our international vendors to play a key role in ensuring the smooth processing of payroll, benefits and various related services across our global employee base. We are growing quickly, although we currently work with a PEO that processes our payroll/benefit this HR Payroll & Benefits Specialist role will expand as we grow and move away from a PEO structure to a self-managed HRIS, payroll and benefit model in the near future, this role will morph into primarily a Payroll Specialist role partnering with a to be added Benefit Specialist role. Each “Specialist” will be cross trained as backups for each other.


Additional responsibilities may be added as the needs of the business change and expand:


  • Processes semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll for organization including but not limited to wage and overtime computation and documenting payroll deductions.
  • Follow up with individual managers and employees to ensure hours are submitted, PTO/sick leave is entered/approved and payroll is processed in a timely manner.
  • Collects approved commission and incentive information and processes for payout.
  • Organizes and processes payroll commissions, incentives and conducts reconciliation on the front and back end.
  • Implements changes to payroll systems, when needed.
  • Set up UI and workers’ compensation accounts in states as required. 
  • Processes wage garnishments for payment to appropriate agencies via payroll/benefits PEO vendor.
  • Acts as main liaison for inquires and troubleshooting with payroll/benefits PEO vendor.
  • Processes all benefit changes and ensures that the appropriate amounts are reflected in payroll and transmitted to vendors.
  • Assist employees with payroll questions and issues.
  • Assist with Open Enrollment process.
  • Continually strives to optimize efficiency and ease of payroll processes for the organization.
  • Completes employment verification requests.
  • Provides Finance with payroll and benefit related information.
  • Prepares payroll related work papers for annual audits.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the year end W-2’s.
  • Responsible for the year end accuracy of the employee census.
  • Prepare, update, recommend and implement Payroll and Benefits policies and procedures.
  • Ensures confidentiality and discretion is always maintained as related to employee and personnel matters and information in accordance with HIPAA, federal, state, legal and compliance.


  • Working with our PEO, leads in administration of employee benefit program including life, disability, health, dental, 401k plan and other ancillary products.
  • Ensures payments are made to all benefits and payroll vendors and completes monthly bill tracker once payments are made.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with the provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and more.
  • Partnering with HR business partners will help administrator and track Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other disability leave programs.
  • May suggest changes when new benefits or programs have to be added/changed in the system.
  • May be involved in filing of reports with state and federal agencies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • BS/BA Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Payroll and Benefits in a fast-paced organization with 500+ employees preferred.
  • Experience with robust HRIS and payroll systems (such as Bamboo, Workday, Ceridian, Paycom, Paycor, Paychex).
  • Familiarity with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration and other disability leave programs preferred.
  • Global payroll and benefit experience.
  • Strong knowledge of state, and federal tax and deductions requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of bonus, commission and incentive pay and taxing requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of employee payroll and benefits.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills a must.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to coordinate several tasks at one time.
  • Able to work with minimal direct supervision and exercise initiative.
