Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean will work with the Regional Vice Dean, Tower Health Campus and the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the oversight of student services, student advising, and student promotions. The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs will be engaged with students in all phases of the process that leads to the successful completion of the medical degree. The Assistant Dean will be involved in career advising and mentoring of students as they progress through the residency application and selection process. The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be an active member of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with special focus on the Reading, Tower Health Campus. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for developing and promoting programmatic activities that promote an inclusive environment and facilitate a diverse community.

Essential Functions
  • Provide individual support and advising to medical students in the College of Medicine.
  • Serve as a Student Affairs Society Dean, providing individual advising and/or support to society students as well as oversight to society leaders in coordinating and implementing society programs and initiatives.
  • Participate in programming and processes to support medical student success including academic support, wellness initiatives, specialty exploration, etc.
  • Serve as an Administrative Liaison to the Student Promotions Committees and the Professionalism Advisory Board.
  • Participate in individual advising and class-wide programs to assist students with career exploration throughout medical school and advising for the residency application and match.
  • Prepare Medical Student Performance Evaluations for senior medical students.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Support and the Director of Student Mental Health Services.
  • Participate as a member of the Admissions Committee, the Curriculum Committees, the Student Wellness Committee, and other Committees and ad hoc Task Forces as necessary.
  • Work with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) to facilitate program development specific to the Reading, Tower Health Campus.
  • Help develop policies, procedures and processes to bolster diversity, equity and inclusion at the College of Medicine.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to implement best practices for the recruitment of students from historically underrepresented groups in medicine.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs to implement best practices in retention and promotion of students from historically underrepresented groups in medicine.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Educational Affairs to implement best practices in culturally sensitive educational content.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for medical student interest groups focused on medically under served communities.
  • Utilize metrics to determine effectiveness of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Active participation in meetings, task forces and special committees as appropriate.
  • Support and help initiate programs to develop a culture of tolerance and anti-racism in the pre clinical and clinical environments.
  • Serve as a resource for education and training in bias, tolerance and anti-racism.
  • Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Vice Dean, Tower Health Campus.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • MD, will accept PhD or EdD
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in medical school academic administration either in a dean's office position or as a course director, clerkship director, residency training director or diversity program manager.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants must have an M.D, Ph.D. or Ed D.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in medical school academic administration either in a dean's office position or as a course director, clerkship director, residency training director or diversity program manager.
  • The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • The candidate should be detail oriented and possess excellent time management skills.
  • The candidate should have experience working in the area of diversity and inclusion.
  • The candidate should have experience working with students from underrepresented populations in medicine.
