About St. Christopher's Hospital for Children

St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, a partnership between Tower Health and Drexel University, is a 188-bed facility that provides exceptional care to children throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and surrounding counties.

With more than 220 pediatric experts on staff, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children combines top-notch pediatric care with a wide array of pediatric specialties, including Cardiology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Gastroenterology, Oncology, and Orthopedics. It houses the only Verified Pediatric Only Burn Center between New York City and Baltimore and is one of only three Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers in Pennsylvania. Job Summary

The Section of Pediatric Pulmonary at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children seeks a full-time Pediatric Pulmonary Staff Physician. Pediatric Pulmonologist diagnose, treat, and manage many disorders affecting the lungs or breathing problems. They often treat children with the following conditions: chronic cough, difficulty breathing, recurring pneumonia (infection of the lungs), asthma (chronic inflammation of the airways), cystic fibrosis (a genetic disease with pulmonary and nutritional symptoms), apnea (when a child’s breathing stops for a prolonged time), chronic lung disease in premature infant, noisy breathing and conditions that require special equipment to monitor and/or help with breathing at home. They also know how to evaluate and treat problems with growth and development that are specifically related to chronic lung disease. They are also skilled in helping patients transition from pediatric pulmonologist to pulmonologists that care for adult patients. The section provides full spectrum of acute and chronic lung replacement therapies. Additionally, they provide the skill and competency in bronchoscopy and interpretation of pulmonary functions and competency in managing technologically dependent children.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Advocate for programs and resources necessary to optimize outcomes of Section priorities and the pediatric patients the Section serves.
• Provide clinical supervision of medical services and assure appropriateness, quality and safety of patient care within the division and assure appropriate supervision of trainees.
• Promote teaching by providing leadership for and participation in the education of medical students, fellows, house staff, nursing and medical staff. Provide leadership in area of expertise to the department and its affiliated institutions.
• Maintain open line of communication with administrator, director, practice manager and other clinical and professional colleagues.
• Support administrative decisions and activities affecting patient care.
• Obtain health history and perform physical examinations.
• Diagnose and direct counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment.
• Review incoming reports (e.g. labs, x-ray, RUS, ECHO, MRI and CT, etc.)

Call Requirements:

Physicians provide day (inpatient) and night call coverage for 7 days a week. Inpatient and night call coverage are usually bundled and done the same week. ECH is applicable for night call coverage provided in addition to what’s contractually obligated.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• BE/BC in Pediatric Pulmonology
• Hold or be eligible for an unrestricted and unchallenged license to practice medicine in the state of Pennsylvania
• Valid DEA Licensure
