Responsibilities

The technologist performs Ultrasound procedures according to established protocol to obtain diagnostic information as ordered by a licensed physician or their designated health care provider. The Sonographer provides information to the patient about the purpose of the ultrasound procedure and responds to the patient's questions and concerns. The Sonographer recognizes the patient's individuality and provides quality care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner using professional and ethical judgment. The diagnostic medical sonographer maintains continued competence through lifelong learning, which includes continuing education, acquisition of specialty specific credentials, and recredentialing. The diagnostic sonographer working in the department of Radiology is required to perform diverse imaging across the spectrum of sonography.

Qualifications

Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with a received certificate of graduation or ARRT RT with cross training in Ultrasound. (Required) ARDMS REGISTRATION with RVT certification. (Required). Certified or eligible for certification by: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S). Eligible sonographers must be fully certified as ARDMS or RT (S) within 24 months of graduation. As well, RVT certification is required within 24 months of graduation. (Required) BLS CERTIFICATION (Required)
