NAFI

NAFI New York is a multi-service agency that provides programming and individualized support services to youth and families in a variety of settings across New York State. Our core services include foster care, wraparound programming and ground-breaking, evidence based services for families in their homes and communities.  We take a respectful and dignified approach to all care services, with the mission of emphasizing the uniqueness of each person, their strengths and their hopes and aspirations.

NAFI New York was established as a region within the North American Family Institute in 2005 with our ground-breaking Westchester Wraparound program. From there, we have grown to be known as a leader in community-based and therapeutic foster care programming for youth and families across New York state. NAFI NY is a multi-service agency that provides programming, consultation and individualized support services to youth and families in a variety of community-based settings. Therapeutic foster care, wraparound services and the highly regarded evidence-based model Parenting with Love and Limits are the broad scope divisions which make up NAFI NY. Our continuum of services are visible throughout much of New York, including Nassau, Orange and Westchester Counties.

With consistent growth within the organization, NAFI New York  has balanced strategic expansion with a focus on continued, quality care. Best-practice research and program data collection allow for systems to be implemented that ensure that adherence to quality improvement measures are woven through and across NAFI NY’s cadre of services. At the  regional and programmatic level, performance quality indicators are being tracked daily in order to provide statistical and measurable data upon which to make appropriate changes and improvements.

NAFI New York’s mission is creating diverse and innovative services for people.

Rooted within all of our diverse services and programs are our common values and beliefs, which unite all staff, youth and families. This is known as the Normative Community Approach. The Normative Community Approach is not a prescriptive model but rather a culmination of our basic assumptions and beliefs about working with people. It forms a framework for building community and empowering people to find their voice.

Our fundamental beliefs, values and assumptions are:

  • People can change
  • To empower individuals in their own care
  • Respect and dignity must be maintained at all times
  • Education and skill-building are essential for sustainable change
  • Recognize and honor each person’s unique strengths and needs
  • Treatment approaches must be individualized, cultural and gender-responsive, trauma-informed and holistic
  • Community connections and relational approach are key for long-term success of youth and families
