College of Aviation

Master of Science in Safety Science

Are you beginning a career as a safety professional and want to advance quickly? Our 36-credit Executive MS in Safety Science is for you! Applicants can choose the format which best suits their needs, attending classes on campus as either a full-time or as a part-time student, or studying from a distance with three short weekend residencies here in Prescott.

Students have the option to specialize in either Aviation Safety or in Occupational Health and Safety. The former prepares the student for conducting safety analyses and accident investigations for any of the major airlines. On the Occupational Health and Safety track, students are trained in how to prevent accidents and how to watch out for the health and safety of employees in various industrial and manufacturing settings. Occupational safety, ergonomics, human factors, and industrial hygiene are all part of the core curriculum. View Program Requirements here.

• The Master of Science in Safety Science curriculum is approved by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). Graduates receive Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation which includes a waiver of the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) examination requirement on the way to for becoming a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). These credentials allow our graduates to command higher salaries.
• Our curriculum meets the standards of the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), ensuring that you will achieve and maintain a level of performance, integrity, and quality consistent with professional safety principles.
• ERAU has the largest university-owned aircraft accident investigation lab in the entire United States, and has been a major destination for students traveling to the United States to study safety science from abroad.
• The Aviation Safety and Security Archives present students with the opportunity to get their hands on rare historic original aircraft accident investigation documents.
