Federal Bureau of Prisons

The Bureau of Prisons was founded in 1930, creating safe, secure facilities for inmates to serve out their sentences. Our mission goes beyond public safety--we are also responsible for effective programming, from needs-based assessments to vocational training, that facilitate inmates' successful re-entry into society. We serve a crucial role in the justice system, with a duty that begins after the court room and continues into the community.

Our mission: Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities
