Provides clinical psychological and support services for HIV-infected youth and their families, including assessment, psychological testing, brief psychotherapy, and when indicated, longer-term therapy, group therapy, and behavioral interventions to help patients manage procedures and treatments (such as HIV disclosure, risk reduction counseling, pill swallowing evaluation, and treatment adherence counseling and education). Collaborates in development of training and educational programs for staff and for patients and families. Fosters effective multi-disciplinary communication concerning patients, families, and the work of the medical team. Promotes principles of patient- and family-centered care, participates actively in departmental rounds and work groups, provides leadership in addressing complex psychosocial problems, and advocates for the mental health needs of HIV Services patients.
